Team Sky's old tour bus auctioned for £31,000 on eBay
A piece of sporting history has gone under the online hammer
A tour bus previously used by Team Sky, Britain’s top professional cycling team, has appeared for sale on eBay.
After carrying the three-time Tour de France-winning team around for five years, the Fiat motorhome was sold to a private buyer two months ago.
Bidding on the vehicle which once carried the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome around has now reached £31,000.
Inside Team Sky's tour bus
Show all 6Sky’s infamously grand fleet of vehicles, which includes the intimidating, all-black team bus known as the ‘Death Star’, has become a fixture of Le Tour since the team first started competing in 2010.
The auctioned vehicle is one of the smaller units used by the team to ferry riders around during time trial stages and mountain top finishes.
Despite its smaller size, there is still enough room inside for an oven, fridge, shower, toilet, seating areas, bunk beds and a kitchen sink.
Initial images of the bus showing the team’s logos have been replaced with edited versions by eBay seller ‘jefflewis7’.
“[The logos] are still actually present but the sheer volume of press coverage for this listing has forced me to re-list it with logos not present, as it was creating too much attention for the team press office,” the seller explains in the item’s description.
One of the uploaded images shows the bus’ habitation door, which lists the names of Team Sky riders to have used the vehicle.
The auction on the item closes on Saturday evening.
