A daring break paid off for Christopher Horner as the RadioShack-Leopard rider claimed victory on stage three of the Vuelta a España between Vigo and Mirador de Lobeira yesterday.
The 41-year-old American pulled away from the peloton with less than a kilometre of the 172.5km (108-mile) course to go and made a successful dart for the finish.
The win puts Horner ahead in the general classification by eight seconds from Vincenzo Nibali. Ireland’s Nicolas Roche, riding for Saxo-Tinkoff, lies third after adding a ninth-placed finish to Sunday’s stage win.
