Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Chris Gayle joined illustrious company as he struck 152 to guide the West Indies to a 106-run victory over Kenya in their one-day international in Nairobi yesterday.

The Kenya captain, Maurice Odumbe, put the tourists in and then saw Gayle became the fifth West Indian to score 150 or more in a limited-overs international, in a total of 311 for 4.

Sir Viv Richards achieved the feat three times. The others to do so were Desmond Haynes, Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Gayle and Daren Ganga put on 174 for the first wicket before Steve Tikolo made a breakthrough for Kenya. Ganga, on 68, was Tikolo's only victim in seven overs when he was lbw. Wavell Hinds and the captain, Carl Hooper, were both run out, but little could distract Gayle, who marched on past his previous international one-day best of 76 to his hundred.

He guided the West Indies to 256 before Thomas Odoyo bowled him for 152. Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan were unbeaten on 38 and 32. The Kenyans struggled to 205 all out as the West Indies bowlers dominated. Colin Stuart took 5 for 44
