Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England batsman Gary Ballance has been warned by coach Peter Moores after pictures emerged of him dancing topless in a Nottingham nightclub.
The picture shows Ballance looking worse for wear at Pandora's Box on Sunday night, hours after the completion of the Test at Trent Bridge - the picture came up on The Tab, a national student website.
The website claimed that Ballance was joined by Yorkshire team-mates Liam Plunkett and Joe Root and Lancashire's Jimmy Anderson.
"They had to carry him out at the end of the night," an eye-witness was quoted as saying. "He was standing outside with his top off screaming ‘England! England! England!"
In response Moores "reminded players of their responsibility" as England players.
"I am aware that some of the England players were caught on camera relaxing after the conclusion of the recent Trent Bridge Test match," said the England coach.
"As the players had been released at the end of the first Test and were not due to meet up to begin preparations for the second Test until Monday evening, and there were no suggestions of impropriety, there is no need for any disciplinary action.
"I will, however, be reminding all players of their responsibilities to uphold the best possible image for England cricket."
Ballance started in the second Test at Lord's making two excellent catches in the slips.
