From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

South Africa were forced to settle for draw against India A here yesterday after the Proteas attack was thwarted for 43 overs.

India A started their second innings some 144 behind after the Proteas batted on to improve their overnight total from 342 for 5 to 463 all out. Aavishkar Salvi was the pick of the India A attack taking 4 for 92.

South Africa, who play England in the first Test at Edgbaston on Thursday, were in with an outside chance of victory after Shaun Pollock and Monde Zondeki reduced their opponents to 35 for 2.

However, Wasim Jaffer (54) and Hemang Badani (58no) shared a third-wicket stand of 101 and stumps were finally drawn at 160 for 3.

Earlier, Boeta Dippenaar (37), Pollock (36) and Robin Peterson (32) had put South Africa into a commanding position.
