Richards to coach West Indies
The former West Indies captain, Viv Richards, has been named as his country's coach for the tour to New Zealand starting next month. The West Indies Cricket Board said last night that the appointment of Richards, and Clive Lloyd as manager, was for one tour only. Richards, who led his country in 50 Tests between 1985 and 1991, took over as West Indies coach during the World Cup in June when Malcolm Marshall was taken ill. Marshall died of colon cancer earlier this month. The board said in a statement that following the New Zealand tour they intended to appoint both manager and coach by "a process of advertisement and interviews of appropriate candidates. This exercise will be completed prior to the home series against Zimbabwe and Pakistan next year." West Indies' six-week New Zealand tour will include two Tests and five one-day internationals. .
