Cricket: Moxon is slow on the uptake
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Queensland 148-1
ENGLAND A adopted go-slow tactics on the third day of their tour match against Queensland at Caloundra yesterday. The tourists had crawled to 287 for 9 at a rate of 2.8 runs an over before Martyn Moxon declared their first innings at tea, to the obvious relief of a patient crowd. The first day and three- quarters were washed out.
Moxon, 11 not out overnight with England A on 64 for 3, took nearly four and a half hours to make 57 and it needed David Capel, riding his luck and finding his form, to give the middle order the respectability it needed.
Dropped twice in the 40s and again by the Queensland captain, Dirk Wellham, in the deep when he had made 69, the Northamptonshire all-rounder went on to score an unbeaten 80 when Moxon finally declared.
Wellham displayed his disgust in the final stages of England A's innings by taking the second new ball himself to bowl his first over this season in a first-class match.
The protest was not lost on Moxon, who promptly declared to give the spectators a chance to watch Matthew Hayden unfold the strokes which have carried him to the verge of the Australian team.
