From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England Under-19 77-5
England face a struggle just to avoid the follow-on in the second Under- 19 Test after South Africa took firm control on the second day in Fochville yesterday.
This match is following an almost identical pattern to the first Test, with the South Africans pushing on past 500 before declaring and the making early inroads into the England top order.
South Africa resumed on 311 for 6 and the overnight batsmen Morne van Wyk and Murray Creed spent a watchful first 40 minutes before punishing some wayward English bowling.
Van Wyk brought up his 150 with his 26th boundary and he was eventually well caught by Robert Key, diving to his left at backward point, for 188.
The left-arm wrist-spinner Gulam Bodi then blasted 69 off 94 balls, with 10 fours and a six. He was particularly severe on the off-spinner Jonathan Powell, whose last eight overs went for 49 runs, before Graeme Swann caught him off his own bowling to finish with respectable figures of 4 for 90 from 42 overs.
England needed a strong start but they lost Key for four in the second over when he mistimed a pull to mid-on. His opening partner, Stephen Peters, misjudged an away-swinger from Creed and was well caught behind by Van Wyk for 16.
The biggest blow to England came when their captain Owais Shah played on to Wasfie Samsodien for only 13.
Michael Gough was leg-before to Jacques Rudolph for 19 off the last ball of the day to leave England 429 runs behind with just five first- innings wickets remaining.
