Cricket: Crowe keeps control
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Match drawn
DESPITE being beset by personal problems, Martin Crowe was yesterday named again by the New Zealand Test selectors to captain the side in the third and final Test against Australia in Auckland starting on Saturday.
Crowe, who temporarily relinquished the captaincy to Ken Rutherford during play on the fourth day, has been troubled by erratic performances on the field as well as a series of unsettling rumours over his health and marriage.
New Zealand lost the first Test but boosted their confidence by drawing the second which finished in Wellington yesterday. Resuming at 40 for 3, they were determined not to give Australia the slightest hope of victory and reached 210 for 7 at the close.
Initially, Andrew Jones and Tony Blain made the Australians struggle by putting on 71 in 125 minutes for the fourth wicket.
After Jones went for 42, Blain soldiered on to score his first half century in Test cricket but, more importantly, he occupied the crease for 193 minutes.
John Wright, New Zealand's 38-year-old opening batsman, continued where Blain left off and was undefeated on 46 at the close after a three and a half hour innings. Wright also reach a personal milestone of 25,000 runs in first-class cricket.
