From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

JAMES BOILING rescued England A from almost certain defeat against Tasmania in Launceston yesterday. Boiling, a last-minute tour replacement for Ian Salisbury, took 3 for 0 in 10 balls to end Tasmania's victory charge.

After Tasmania had declared overnight for 159 without loss, Martyn Moxon's declaration at 92 for 1 set them 354 runs to win. A Tasmanian record second-wicket stand of 202 runs in 47 overs between Dene Hills and Jamie Cox brought victory in sight, but the run-chase petered out after Jack Russell ran out Cox for 115.

Dominic Cork, the all-rounder who was criticised by local newspapers for his displays of petulance when he had a series of lbw appeals turned down during Tasmania's first innings, was admonished by the England A team manager, Mike Vockins, yesterday.

'There was no reprimand for Cork and no complaints from the umpires,' Vockins said. 'Cork was reminded his energies in the middle should be devoted to bowling.'
