Your support makes all the difference.The 1995 world canoe slalom championships are to be held at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, the venue this weekend for the second international event of the domestic season. Most of the British team, including the world men's kayak champion, Shaun Pearce, and the consistent Richard Fox MBE, the four-times previous champion, will use the event to prepare for the world championships, which will be held this year in northern Italy in July. Four categories comprise slalom racing. In men's and women's kayak the paddlers sit and in the Canadian singles and doubles the canoeists kneel as they contest the 600m artificial course, fed by the River Trent. Individuals compete tomorrow, with the team event and an exciting slalom sprint on Sunday.
How to get there: National Water Sports Centre, Adbolton Lane, Holme Pierrepont is three miles east of Nottingham on A52. Admission to country park pounds 1 per car each day. Racing from noon-5pm tomorrow and on Sunday from 10am-3.30pm. (Tel: 0602- 821212).
