Your support makes all the difference.The level of the River Dee at Llangollen, North Wales, will provide good competition in this weekend's British Open and Junior Slalom Championships and the final race of the Premier Division. In the men's kayak, in which paddlers sit, five competitors are in contention for the overall championship, including Shaun Pearce, the former world champion from Newbury, and Paul Ratcliffe, from Tyldesley. Ratcliffe, who will be 20 next month, leads the Premier Division series. The best viewing points are from the bridge in the town or the footpath. The bridge affords good views of Town Ford, where water cascading over rocks can cause problems for the paddlers. Next weekend, the town also stages the Llangollen International Classic.
How to get there: Llangollen, Clwydd, North Wales, is on A5, south-west of Chester and Wrexham. Individual racing takes place tomorrow from 10.30am to 5.15pm; the team event on Sunday runs from 10.30am to 1.45pm.
