Lucas Browne confirms he is 'all good' after sickening sixth-round knockout by Dillian Whyte

Lucas Browne has insisted he is “all good” and thanked the boxing world for their “love and support” after his sickening knockout at the hands of Dillian Whyte on Saturday night.

Concern swept across the O2 Arena as the huge left hook by Whyte left Browne motionless on the canvas and needing urgent medical attention before leaving the ring with an oxygen mask and on a stretcher.

Despite the brutal sixth-round knockout, which saw Whyte retain his position as the No 1 contender to Deontay Wilder’s WBC world heavyweight title, Browne confirmed he was well and insisted he would be back.

He tweeted: “Hi everyone. Thanks very much for the love and support. It wasn’t my night and massive respect to Dillian Whyte for his performance.

“My eye was giving me trouble from the second and you can’t protect from what you can’t see. I’m all good and I will be back.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that Whyte should now be targeting a fight with Wilder, potentially in June.

“The aim now is for Dillian Whyte to fight for a world title,” Hearn said. “No disrespect to Luis Ortiz. It is a great fight, but if you’re in a fight that dangerous, you’d want some kind of carrot, and there’s no carrot in the Luis Ortiz fight other than it’s just a great fight for the fans. But really, I want to see him fight Deontay Wilder next.

”That’s not that we’re trying to swerve the AJ fight next. If AJ fights Deontay Wilder in his next fight, it won’t be until October, November or December anyway. So, those guys (Wilder and Whyte) can fight in June or July.

“It’s not like it’s short money. It’s the biggest payday of his (Wilder) career by a mile, and it takes the Joshua fight to another level as well.”
