Boxing: Bruno's title fight put back
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Frank Bruno has been forced to put back his fourth attempt to win a world heavyweight title. Bruno's meeting with the World Boxing Council champion, Oliver McCall, at Wembley Stadium on 22 July, has been postponed.
McCall has suffered a hand injury and the promoter, Frank Warren, said yesterday that the fight will take place some time in September. Nigel Benn's defence of his WBC super-middleweight title against the Italian, Vincenzo Nardiello, which was scheduled for the same bill, will still take place on the same night, but at the London Arena.
"It's a sickener - particularly for Frank, who has been training hard in Tenerife for this big chance," Warren said. "He so badly wants to win that world title, but it's just one of those things and there's nothing that anyone can do about it.
"I'm hoping that Wembley Stadium will be available for a new date in September. If not, we shall probably have to look towards a football ground."
Fans who have bought tickets will have three options: a refund, the chance to hold on to tickets until September, or an exchange for the Benn fight with a cash adjustment.
