Football

Portugal's football federation on Saturday named the defender Rui Bento, midfielder Nuno Capucho and striker Paulo Alves as the three over-age players in the squad for next month's Olympic tournament. The Olympic competition is basically restricted to players under 23 but each country is allowed three over-age players in a squad of 18. Alves is 26 and the other two are 24.

PORTUGAL OLYMPIC SQUAD: Goalkeepers Costinha (Sporting), Herlander (Guimaraes). Defenders: Calado (Benfica), Litos (Boavista), Bento (Boavista), Jorge (Porto), Andrade (Sporting), Beto (Sporting). Midfielders: Peixe (Sporting), Martins (Sporting), Vidigal (Sporting), Kenedy (Benfica), Capucho (Guimaraes). Forwards: Dani (Sporting), Dominguez (Sporting), Alves (Sporting), Porfirio (Sporting), Gomes (Boavista).
