The Bramall Lane manager has been linked with several other clubs, but Bassett, who has pledged his future to United until the summer of 1997, said: "Hopefully this will end all the speculation. I've committed myself to Sheffield United and would not do a U-turn if a bigger offer came my way tomorrow."
The Football League has confirmed that Exeter City's future has been assured for another season. The Third Division club were able to give the League the necessary financial assurances before Wednesday's midnight deadline and have been included on next season's fixture list.
The former England defender, Russell Osman, is to sue Bristol City for unfair dismissal and breach of contract. Osman, who was sacked as manager last November, will have his case heard by an industrial tribunal in Bristol at a date to be arranged.
