From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

MAGIC JOHNSON is to return to Sweden to play more games for MagicM7, a basketball team from the Swedish town of Boras which he bought earlier this year.

Johnson, who retired in 1991 after testing HIV-positive, played for MagicM7 last month and led the team to an 84-60 victory over Sallen in October. The American will now appear in four MagicM7 games between 14 and 21 January against Sundsvall, Plannja, Sallen and Norrkoping, according to Swedish newspaper reports.

When Johnson, who is now 40, last played in Sweden 3,300 people turned up to watch the game, which was played in a stadium built to hold 1,900.

Last year M7 Boras, as the team was known before Johnson took over, finished fifth in the Swedish league and missed the play-offs.

Johnson won five NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and made a brief comeback in 1992, winning an Olympic gold medal after playing for the US Olympic "Dream Team" in Barcelona.
