Athletics: Regis back with a hat-trick
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Regis won the B race in 20.69sec, 0.4sec faster than the A race winner Terry Williams, of Shaftesbury Barnet, indicating that he has recovered from his Achilles tendon problems. He also helped Belgrave to second place in the sprint relay after winning the 100m in 10.55sec. His hat-trick won him the athlete of the match award. Linford Christie watched from the sidelines but chose not to compete, though he still saw his side, Thames Valley Harriers, win the match and take a clear lead in the league. David Grindley, the British 400m record holder, has been ruled out for the summer. The 21-year-old has ligament damage in his left foot and will miss the European Championships and Commonwealth Games. In the absence of Roger Black, who spent nearly a year out with a viral complaint, Grindley had established himself as Britain's No 1 at 400m despite missing last summer's World Championships with a calf injury. Grindley will see a specialist about an inherent left-sided weakness. Vicente Modahl, his manager, said: 'If we pushed him now we could have destroyed him. He has had problems all year and the only cure is complete rest. It will give us the chance to get it sorted out once and for all.'
