Athletics: Crear in control
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE AMERICAN Marc Crear ran a season's best 12.98sec in the 110 metres hurdles to beat the world record-holder, Colin Jackson, in last night's IAAF meeting in Zagreb.
The time was also a personal best for Crear, who is preparing for next month's World Championships in Seville. Britain's Jackson finished second in 13.24, and another American, Duane Ross, was third in 13.39.
Bruny Surin, of Canada, failed to finish under the 10sec mark in the 100m, but broke the meeting record with a time of 10.08. The British sprinter Jason Gardener followed in 10.10, and Dennis Mitchell, of the US, was third in 10.14.
Surin also took the 200, winning in a track record of 20.29. Tony McCall of the United States came second in 20.37, and Ukrainian Sergei Osovic was third in 20.48.
