Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

FANTASY football seems to have faded somewhat from the public consciousness, to be replaced by fantasies of a different nature. The Gay Football Supporters Network balloted their members over the summer: first they asked which players made the greatest contributions to the game. Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona of Manchester United copped the most votes, followed by Blackburn's Alan Shearer and Newcastle's Andy Cole. But Cantona did not appear in the GFSN's 'Lust List'. Which players appeal most in aesthetic terms to the gay footballing community? Here is the Top 10, as revealed in Attitude magazine. 1 Lee Sharpe; 2 Jamie Redknapp; 3 Alan Shearer; 4 Dennis Wise; 5 Paul Ince; 6 Ryan Giggs; 7 Vinny Jones; 8 Steve Jones; 9 Mark Bosnich; 10 Scott Minto. Good to see a hard man at No 7, as Julian Clary might say.
