Jens Christian Madsen came on as substitute and scored an 88th minute winner to give Denmark's Aalborg a 2-1 win over Panathinaikos, of Greece, last night for their first success in the European Champions' Leaguet. Aalborg, reinstated in Group A after the Ukrainian champions, Dynamo Kiev, were expelled for attempting to bribe a referee, fought tirelessly in their first home game in front of a 6,100 crowd in their small north Jutland stadium.
The Coca-Cola Cup tie between Reading and Bury, which was abandoned on Tuesday night, will be played on Tuesday 7 November at 7.45pm. The replays between Tranmere and Birmingham and Leicester and Bolton will be the following night.
Nathan Blake, the Welsh international, has escaped a three-match ban following his sending-off for Sheffield United at Southend earlier this month. The 23-year-old forward was dismissed when a linesman allegedly saw him spitting at the Southend defender Mike Lapper.
