Pope urges end to land-mine making
Vatican City - Pope John Paul appealed to arms producers to stop making anti-personnel mines, which he said were designed to kill and mutilate innocent people and children. Relief groups say there are about 100 million anti-personnel mines in the world, mostly in Third World countries. They kill about 800 people every month. Anti-personnel mines are made in China, Russia and European countries, including Britain, Italy and Germany. Reuter
