A video has emerged apparently showing the moment an Isis suicide bomber’s vehicle hits a landmine and is hurtled towards the sky, before exploding mid-air, leaving plumes of smoke hanging in its place.
The shaky video, published by LiveLeak shows smoke suddenly erupting from a previously undisturbed area of land, out of which the vehicle shoots in to the air before exploding, and then dropping back down to earth.
LiveLeak’s description of the video claims a suicide bomber was travelling in the vehicle but was thwarted by Peshmerga forces before reaching their target. The footage is believed to have been taken near Kirkuq in Iraq.
“Before the suicide bomber reached its main goal, Peshmerga Forces were able to destroy the vehicle. As the truck took the hit, the explosives went airborne and exploded midway through the air [sic],” the site stated.
On Tuesday the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi appealed to President Obama to release more money and aid the country in its struggle against Isis.
Iraqi forces have been pushing back against militants in the city of Tikrit, the hometown of former leader Saddam Hussein, where security forces have been fighting alongside Shia paramilitary fighters to raise the country’s flag over the black symbol flown by Isis.
But just days ago, Isis released a propaganda video warning America of a second 9/11-style attack.
The video, entitled “We will burn America,” claimed that “today, there is no safety for any American on the globe,” and showed mass beheadings, the death of US journalist James Foley, and the burning of Jordanian pilot Muadh al-Kasasbeh.
