From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Vice President Joe Biden still has not declared his intentions for the 2016 US presidential election, but he has left the door cracked for a potential run for the White House, USA Today reported.

Mr Biden surprised reporters by showing up to a White House press briefing on Monday and insisted that he thinks he has plenty of time to make a decision about running for president in 2016, but admitted that he could be mistaken.

“But there's a lot the president and I care about that has to get done in the next two to three months,” he said. “When you run for president you've got to run for president, and I'm not ready to do that, if I'm ever going to be ready to do that.”

Biden delaying his possible presidential campaign leaves Hillary Clinton as the lone Democrat who has officially declared she will run. Her announcement on the weekend and subsequent road trip to Iowa created a bit of a media circus earlier in the week.

Mrs Clinton has been the presumed Democratic front-runner for months, but liberal strategist Donna Brazile told USA Today that people should not count out Mr Biden, as he is a key fundraiser in the party.

“He's one of our key fundraisers and we rely on him a lot to raise money for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates,” said Ms Brazile, vice chairwoman of voter registration and participation at the Democratic National Committee.
