Cyclist narrowly missed by oncoming train at Netherlands level crossing

Footage has captured the moment a cyclist in the Netherlands narrowly avoided a collision with an oncoming train at a level crossing.

The person pushes off from the side of the intersection after a freight train passes on the railway line concealing their vision of a second train track.

It is unknown whether the individual was aware of the passenger train approaching from the other direction.

The double-decker train is seen speeding towards the individual and their bicycle as they cross the lines.

Fortunately, the rear wheel of the bike crosses the threshold just in time to avoid being struck by the speeding train.

The train continues to hurtle onwards as the cyclist hurries away from the tracks.

The person appears to take a pause for a moment before cycling away from the junction.

ProRail, a Dutch infrastructure manager for national rail travel, has begun trials earlier in the year to minimise near misses at level crossings by painting road surfaces with bright yellow paint.
