Police in Berlin have arrested a man on suspicion he killed and dismembered his wife, possibly in front of her six children.

Police said the 30-year-old woman was killed today in Kreuzberg and then partially dismembered before her husband, 32, was taken into custody.

They say the six children living in her apartment were being looked after by child services.

It was not clear whether the woman was killed in the apartment or on the roof, and police say they can't give further details because the investigation is continuing.

Local media reports the suspect threw body parts off the roof into an interior courtyard before being apprehended.

BZ newspaper reports the couple were estranged, and the six children were between the ages of one and 13.
