Close vote for Japan coalition
Japan's ruling coalition scraped to victory in a regional election, Reuter reports from Tokyo. Masanori Tanimoto, 48, beat his nearest rival by fewer than 10,000 votes in an election for governor of Ishikawa prefecture. The vote was seen as a pointer to the coalition's ability to resist electoral attacks by the opposition Liberal Democrats.
