The chairman of the Organization for Security and Co- operation in Europe, the Swiss Foreign Minister, Flavio Cotti, said he was giving the go-ahead for the polls to take place in line with the timetable set out in the Dayton peace accord.
Meanwhile, in the first clear sign that Radovan Karadzic plans to step down, one of his top aides said the Bosnian Serb leader was ready to "sacrifice his power" in the interest of his people. Mr Karadzic has defied international pressure to give up his leadership post. Vienna -Reuter
