The Philippines warned yesterday that Beijing's sweeping territorial claims in the South China Sea may threaten freedom of navigation, and called on Western and Asian countries to take a stand against any such potential threat.
China's territorial claims have brought it into a tense, 14-day high seas standoff with the Philippines over the Scarborough Shoal, which both countries claim.
