Donald Trump says he deserves an A-plus 'for effort'
President gives himself only a C-plus for getting his message out to the American public, however
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Politicians are often accused of marking their own homework, and Donald Trump has given himself top grades for the achievements of his month-old administration.
The President said he would award himself an A-grade for "achievement" after his first weeks in office, and an A-plus for effort.
But his ability to communicate those efforts merited only a C-plus at best, he said.
In an interview with Fox & Friends Mr Trump said: "In terms of effort, which means something, but I give myself an A-plus. Results are more important.
"In terms of messaging I would give myself a C or a C-plus. My messaging isn't good. When I see a story about 'Donald Trump didn't fill hundreds and hundreds of jobs, that's because in many cases we don't want to fill those jobs. We have so many people in government.
"Now, in terms of achievement I think I'd give myself an A, because I think I've done great things, but I don't think I've—I and my people—I don't think we've explained it well enough to the American public. I think I get an A in terms of what I've actually done."
Mr Trump lost no time in implementing his agenda, even taking time out on Inauguration Day to sign his first executive order, which began the process of dismantling the Affordable Care Act.
