Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar pulled no punches on the Trump administration following the president's announcement he would halt negotiations for the coronavirus relief bill until after the election.

In a scathing attack after the president made the sudden revelation on Tuesday, the Minnesota representative  and “squad” member blasted the decision.

“The only logical response to this f***ery, is to vote them out,” she said on Twitter.

“Not by analysing their cruelty, inaction and irresponsible politics. It’s about power and the people need to reclaim that power on 3 November.”

The backlash comes following the president’s sudden announcement that he had ordered aides to halt negotiations for another bill which would help mitigate the severe economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business,” the president tweeted.

The announcement comes the day after the president returned to the White House from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre, where he was admitted after announcing he had tested positive for coronavirus on Friday.

Mr Trump’s announcement that he would stop negotiations sent US stock markets tumbling. The Dow Jones was down 500 points, but that drop had improved to about 280 points as of 3.30pm eastern time.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi also slammed Mr Trump for stopping the stimulus talks, charging the president with "putting himself first at the expense of the country".

"Walking away from coronavirus talks demonstrates that President Trump is unwilling to crush the virus," Rep Pelosi said in a statement.

"He shows his contempt for science, his disdain for our heroes -- in health care, first responders, sanitation, transportation, food workers, teachers and others -- and he refuses to put money in workers' pockets, unless his name is printed on the check."
