From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kimi Reylander died after being shot in the head by her brother in their great grandparents’ house in the suburb of Irondale, local Police Chief Ken Atkinson told AL.com.
Mr Atinkson said the boy found a loaded pistol on a bedroom nightstand and accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his sister in the head.
The loaded gun had reportedly been left there by the victim’s great grandfather, Joel Watson, who did not know the children were visiting.
Kimi Reylander was flown with life-threatening injuries to Children's Hospital of Alabama, where she later died.
The police chief said that the incident appeared to be a "tragic accident" but that an investigation is under way to learn exactly what happened.
The nine year-old's great grandfather told WIAT.com: “It’s the worst thing I’ve ever done. This felt worse than losing my old mum and dad.
“This was my baby. She was my pride and joy.”
In May 2015, a two year-old boy died after shooting himself in the head in Virginia. In April the same year a three year-old boy killed a one year-old in Cleveland after picking up an unattended gun.
