Search for wanted fugitive Shawn Christy continues

Hundreds of police officers are search for fugitive Shawn Richard Christy in Ohio, after he allegedly threaten to “put a bullet” in Donald Trump.

The manhunt has been going on for months as the 26-year-old Mr Christy, originally from New Jersey, has eluded authorities in several states after his 19 June arrest warrant was issued for threatening the president and John Morganelli, the district attorney of Northampton County, Pennsylvania in a Facebook post.

Mr Christy allegedly stole a truck over the weekend and the search has become concentrated in Mansfield, Ohio, after Robert Clark, a supervisory deputy for the US Marshals service confirmed the vehicle was found in the town of 46,000 people.

Mr Clark said the suspect was already wanted on several other charges when federal law enforcement began pursuing him for the Facebook post, which read: “Keep it up Morganelli, I promise I’ll put a bullet in your head as soon as I put one in the head of President Donald J. Trump”.

Craig Christy, the suspect’s father, said his son’s post may have been during a time of particular frustration with the court system.

“He felt like he was trapped. In those instances, sometimes people say things they don’t really mean,” the elder Mr Christy told the New York Times.

There were state warrants out for his arrest on an alleged assault charge and then another for not appearing in court for the assault charge.

The FBI and Secret Service then became involved after the post and said Mr Christy threatened to use “full lethal force on any law enforcement officer that tries to detain me.”

Mr Clark described Mr Christy as a “bushcrafter” to the newspaper, someone highly skilled in surviving in the wilderness.

The suspect has allegedly stolen food and other supplies to live in the woods.

“With the threats and the theft of firearms, there’s certainly potential for a confrontational conclusion, which is what we do not want. We’re just hoping that this investigation can come to a safe conclusion,” Mr Clark said.

He also noted police are not clear about what Mr Christy’s “endgame” actually is with regards to the manhunt.

The reward for information leading to Mr Christy’s arrest is $20,000.
