Four people are dead after a shooting in New Jersey over New Year.

A young man has been arrested on suspicion of killing four of his family members, according to local reports from USA Today and NBC New York.

"No threat to the public as it is believed to be an isolated domestic incident," an Twitter account believed to belong to the Monmouth County prosecutors office posted. "More to follow stay tuned."

The attack, which happened overnight, could be the first mass shooting of the year. It comes just a day after law enforcement officers were shot at in a major incident in Colorado.

Authorities confirmed the shooting had happened in Long Branch, on the Jersey Shore. The beach-side city has a population of around 30,000.
