“Just put me in handcuffs,” Bay County Sheriff deputies said Robinson told them, according to an incident report. “I did it. … I killed my baby and put him inside the suitcase.”
“He is floating on top of the water,” the 27-year-old mother added, according to deputies.
Robinson was arrested and charged with murder in a case that authorities are investigating as a possible “ritualistic sacrifice.”
Police said she admitted that she killed her son to save him from a biblical flood — and then tried to get a bus ticket to skip town.
The crime occurred on the day after Christmas, authorities said, inside the quaint home on Benton Drive, just a stone’s throw from the Callaway Bayou. Robinson’s son, Aries Juan Acevedo, was crying and she told her friend, who was also her roommate, that she needed to tend to the child, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The friend left the home.
When he returned, he found Robinson “bloody and cut up,” according to the document. She told him someone had come and picked up the child, he later told police.
The friend later told police that Robinson had cut herself with a knife but she would not go to a hospital, so he wrapped her wounds with bandages.
For days after, her friend grew suspicious, authorities said. He noticed Robinson wandering outside and staring into the swampy area behind the home — where her son’s body had been abandoned. Then he discovered bags with the child’s belongings — shoes, clothes and diapers — near the swamp, and then the suitcase with the body, according the arrest warrant affidavit.
He phoned police.
When deputies arrived on Dec. 29, they smelled “a strong odor” and found the boy’s body wrapped in a sheet and crammed inside the suitcase. Authorities said the toddler had been dead several days — stabbed in the abdomen, with his aorta artery punctured. He bled to death — slowly, according to the police document.
There was a “piece of concrete” in his throat, authorities said.
“These guys see a lot of bad things, but when you see what these guys saw — when you talk to someone who has murdered a child,” Sheriff Frank McKeithen said, according to the News Herald, “there is no excuse for this, whether meanness or ritual sacrifice. There is no excuse for this.”
Robinson was arrested and transported to Bay County Jail.
“I was just trying to save him,” she told police, according to an incident report. “I just needed a little bit more time.
Robinson asked a police investigator whether he believed in Noah’s ark — the story in Genesis in which God instructs Noah to build a ship to save his family as well as two of each animal from a 40-day flood.
“Robinson stated to me that, ‘The world is going to flood and everyone was going to be drowned and I can’t be drowned, therefore, I have to be shot in the head,'” the investigator wrote in the report. “‘I was just trying to save my baby.'”
“Everyone on Noah’s ark relived [sic] and my baby will relive [sic] again,” she added, according to the report.
Robinson faces charges for premeditated murder and is being held without bond. Her arraignment is set for Feb. 2.
