Few things generate such an inverse amount of attention to their genuine newsworthiness, as a sinkhole. People like to read about them, people love to look at photographs that capture their sinkiness.

So when it was reported a sinkhole had appeared outside Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, people had a tough time controlling their excitement. It did not matter that the sinkhole was actually rather small, more a hole-let, or a sinkpuddle. Or even a floathole.

“A 4’ x 4’ sinkhole has formed on Southern Boulevard directly in front of Mar-a-Lago,” read a traffic alert from the town of Palm Beach.

“It appears to be in the vicinity of the newly installed water main. West Palm Beach Utilities distribution crews have secured the area and will most likely need to do some exploratory excavation today.”

The Palm Beach Post said a worker on scene said that crews cut around the sinkhole and will dig to find the problem. It is unclear how long that will take.

Some Twitter users have flooded the internet with jokes about the hole. "The swamp is draining?" one person quipped, while another posted "Breaking: God sends really obvious sign".
