From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Canadian comedian — known as Superwoman — gave the payments to supporters after reaching a landmark 1,000 vlogs on her channel.
It included money for one girl to take her sick mother out for dinner, and $100 (£75) to another towards groceries for her and her 10-year-old brother while their mother is in prison.
Ms Singh is worth £5.7m, according to Forbes — making her the world’s highest earning female YouTuber on the back of her 12.5 million subscribers.
She took to Twitter this week to share out $1,000 (£762) and told her 4.5million followers to write to her with any needs so she could help them with cash.
Ms Singh tweeted a link to a vlog over the giveaway and wrote: “We made it to 1000 VLOGS!!! I decided I wanted to help people around the world and gave $1000 for people who truly needed it.”
She replied to one who got in touch: “I would like to help pay your rent and give you $100. Someone from my team will reach out asap sis x.”
Another, Kristin, wrote: “My mother was arrested recently and I’m working as hard as I can to get her out. Becuz of this I’m on my own with my 10 year old brother trying to take him 2 school and pay for bills and food. It’s really hard. I really need some kind of help.”
Ms Singh responded: “You are so strong sis. I’d love to help by paying for $100 worth of groceries. Give your brother a hug for me x.”
Claudine, from Dallas in the US, also replied to Ms Singh’s cash offer to her fans, writing: “I want to get certified in Facebook blueprint to get a better job but I can’t afford the test.”
Ms Singh replied: “I googled it and I think this test is $150? Start studying sister because I'm getting it for you.”
The Canadian comedian is the top earning female YouTuber and third highest overall.
She only trails Swedish gamer PewDiePie who is worth $15m on the back of nearly 50 million followers, and prankster Roman Atwood who has nearly 14 million and a fortune of some $8m.
