Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A seven-year-old American girl living in the UK with her mother has vanished during a supervised visit to the US to see her father.
Reigh Storrow Boss was spending time with father Clark Rockefeller in Boston on Sunday, along with a social worker.
As the group walked along, a black SUV pulled up and Rockefeller, 48, grabbed his daughter and jumped into the car, Boston Police said.
The social worker tried to cling to the car and was dragged a short distance, causing minor injuries.
Rockefeller and his daughter were later seen being dropped off at Grand Central Station, New York , at around 7.30pm in a different car.
Police believe he may plan to escape by sea in a 72ft yacht called Serenity which he recently purchased and moored somewhere on Long Island.
The girl's mother, Sandra Boss, works for McKinsey & Co in London.
A spokesman for the company said: "We have been asked by the authorities not to discuss or comment at this point in time."
Boston police issued an arrest warrant for Rockefeller on charges of custodial kidnapping, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the SUV.
They said he uses a variety of aliases including JP Clark Rockefeller, James Frederick, Clark Mill Rockefeller and Michael Brown - but is not part of the ultra-wealthy Rockefeller dynasty that made billions of dollars with Standard Oil, a spokesman for the family said.
He is a former director of Boston's exclusive Algonquin Club, but resigned from the club three months ago, the club's manager said yesterday. Police said Mr Rockefeller met his daughter and the social worker at the club on Sunday.
Manager Lassaad Riahi said that he has known Rockefeller for the several years he was a member.
"What I do know is he's a gentleman. He's a kind man. Polite. Very, very intelligent," Mr Riahi said. "I am very shocked."
Ms Boss is a Harvard graduate who has worked with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. and is also on the board of The Mount, author Edith Wharton's estate.
According to the Boston Globe, the girl's mother has travelled to the US and has been talking to police.
Boston officers said the girl was 4ft tall with blonde hair, blue eyes and wore glasses.
