A Texas mother is waiting to find out if her hefty baby boy will make the record books as one of the biggest newborns in the state's history. JaMichael Brown was born on Friday in an east Texas hospital weighing a whopping 16lbs 1oz.
"Everybody was amazed that he was so big," said his mother, Janet Johnson, 39.
Doctors at the Good Shepherd Medical Centre in Longview said JaMichael was one of the biggest newborns they had seen, and hospital officials have asked the state's records department to look into whether he is big enough to approach any Texas records. Guinness World Records says the heaviest newborn ever recorded was 23lbs 12oz, born to an Ohio woman in 1879.
Ms Johnson said she hoped to get her son home later this week – and return his newborn clothes that don't fit.
