Ecuador: Drone captures collapsed bridge in Guayaquil after 7.8M earthquake

Drone footage has captured the devastating impact caused by Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake which hit Ecuador.

The video shows a collapsed bridge at Avenida de las Americas in Guayaquil – located about 180 miles from the epicentre. The bridge can be seen buckled following the initial earthquake and several powerful aftershocks.

It is the biggest earthquake to hit Ecuador in decades as the death toll rises to 350.

There were more than 200 aftershocks, mainly in the Pedernales area; and a state of emergency was declared in six provinces.

President Rafael Correa has declared the earthquake “the greatest tragedy in the last 67 years.”

"There are signs of life in much of the rubble and that is the priority," Correa said in a televised address to the nation.

He confirmed at least 2,068 injured and said he feared those figures would increase.
