From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

With the U.S. experiencing a particularly historic winter of weather, with the polar vortex returning to many states, a large number of Americans are probably looking forward to spring being just around the corner.

Yet this drone footage over the city of Baltimore, Maryland's largest city, famed for being the setting for The Wire, will remind many of the magic and beauty that snow brings to well-known landscapes, blanketing monuments and memorials so that they can be seen in a completely new light.

Michael Coakley filmed the Charm City on Monday night and Tuesday morning during Winter Storm Octavia, shooting the snowy scenes with his GoPro and a trusty drone.

He captures many of the city's great sights and monuments during the winter: the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon, the wonderful waterfront and National Aquarium, the home of the Orioles - Camden Yards, as well as the expansive Johns Hopkins Campus.

Fort McHenry looks particularly impressive in the untouched snow.
