A man is on the run in Brazil after his girlfriend filmed him abusing her dogs, promptly breaking up with him and pressing charges with police in Rio de Janiero.
Ninna Mandin posted two videos on her Facebook account last weekend after she had suspected her now ex-boyfriend, Rafael Hermida, of mistreating her two French bulldogs.
To find out whether her fears were misplaced or genuine, she installed a camera in her house in the Barra da Tijuca area of Rio. She caught Hermida slamming one of the dogs onto the ground and holding another by its hind legs and dropping it onto the ground.
The shocking video has appalled many in Brazil, where it has gone viral, with a Facebook group proposing a protest this Friday outside the bar that Hermida reportedly partially owns.
Mandin broke up with Hermida after watching the video and also pressed charges at the Barra da Tijuca police station. Reports cite Hermida's friends revealing that he had now run away, with multiple animal rights organisations and other activists calling for him to be arrested and imprisoned.
Police are currently investigating the incident and reports suggest that Hermida was called to answer questions on Tuesday afternoon, although it is not yet known whether he made an appearance.
