Youths loyal to Laurent Gbagbo, the Ivorian leader who is refusing to cede power, attacked a UN vehicle at a makeshift roadblock in Abidjan yesterday. They dragged out and beat the driver and then set the vehicle ablaze.
A UN ambulance also had to retreat after security forces backing Mr Gbagbo pelted it with stones.
The UN Security Council met in New York to discuss Ivory Coast. It is expected to adopt a resolution authorising the UN force to continue its mission in the country.
