Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A 63-year-old man has gone missing while on a cruise ship holiday in Egypt.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said officers are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of John Halford, of Greenleys, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
Mr Halford left Luton Airport on March 31 to join the Thomson cruise but when it finished in Sharm El Sheikh on April 7, he was not on board.
It is thought he went missing some time between 11.45pm on April 6 and 7.30am on April 7.
The spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police is growing increasingly concerned for John's welfare and is working with the Foreign Office in Egypt to find him as it is out of character for John not to make contact with his family.
"If you were on the cruise with John, or know where he might be, contact Thames Valley Police via the 24-hour police inquiry centre on 0845 8 505 505."
Mr Halford is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build, clean-shaven and has short grey hair.
