Anti-Apartheid Movement : 50th Anniversary

It has been half a century since the Anti-Apartheid Movement was formed in London to campaign against the racially motivated marginalisation black people in South Africa.

To mark this, the Museum of London is opening an exhibition celebrating some of the many demonstrations which contributed to the abolition of apartheid and culminated in Nelson Mandela’s democratic election as South African president in 1994.

A display of a posters, photographs, news footage, memorabilia and testimony from protestors will open on 12 June.

"This remarkable display showcases the work of the Anti-Apartheid Movement and provides a timely example of the influence that grassroots activism can achieve," remarked Jack Lohman, director of the Museum of London.
