Traffic ban to beat IRA
Some traffic could be banned from the City of London in an attempt to defeat terrorist bombers, it was disclosed last night.
Checkpoints would be used to enforce the ban on non-essential vehicles, Michael Cassidy, chairman of City Corporation planning, said. Measures in hand include making litter bins bomb-proof and recruiting 57 extra police officers.
