Amy Winehouse taken to clinic

The troubled singer Amy Winehouse was last night in hospital undergoing tests after fainting at her home.

Winehouse "quickly recovered" after passing out yesterday afternoon, her spokesman said, adding that a member of her management team was at the singer's house in Camden, north London, at the time.

Her father, Mitch, took her to The London Clinic as a precautionary measure and doctors were last night deciding whether to keep her in for observation.

"Doctors are unsure of the cause of the incident and Amy is undergoing tests. They want to make sure she is OK, but it wasn't an emergency dash." The 24-year-old star's year has not sunk to the extremes of 2007, when her father confessed he was so concerned about her that he had already written a eulogy for her funeral.

But the pressure of her husband's court case – Blake Fielder-Civil is on trial charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice – has taken its toll. The strain of his incarceration influenced the singer's decision to abandon her UK tour in November last year.

In April, Winehouse attended a central London police station after being arrested on suspicion of head-butting one man and punching another. A month later she was arrested after police were handed a video which allegedly showed her smoking crack cocaine.
