Press bill pressure on media
Labour stepped up pressure yesterday on Mr Mellor, after reports that he would defer the handling of any future legislation on press controls to his junior minister, Robert Key. Mr Mellor's department described the reports as 'highly speculative'.
But Bryan Gould, shadow National Heritage secretary, said: 'If a senior minister's private life prevents him from taking responsibility for the most important legislation sponsored by his department then something is wrong.'
