As Robert Peston dissected the frank criticisms and jabs contained in Business Secretary Vince Cable's leaked letter to the Prime Minister this week, the oddest thing contained within it wasn't remarked upon. That being Vince's signature, s remarkably concise curled line and a dot.
It looks so unlike the letters of Cable's name that the only possible conclusion is that it's actually a drawing of a very thin – which sounds like a bit like "Vin" – cable. A Vin Cable. That must be it.
Perhaps more worrying than the scrawl itself, is that fact that the signature of the man with the power to sign off huge deals and mergers is easier to replicate than John Cage's "4'33".
