Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has congratulated Sadiq Khan for winning the London mayoral election.

Although the result of the election is yet to be announced, Mr Corbyn tweeted to say he "can't wait to work with" Mr Khan "to create a London that is fair for all".

He ended his celebratory tweet with the hashtag #YesWeKhan.

Sadiq Khan is currently ahead of his rival, Zac Goldsmith, in the race to be London mayor.

The Labour candidate has been hotly tipped to succeed Boris Johnson, despite controversy over alleged links to extremists made by his rival.

Mr Khan has also been congratulated by the mayors of Paris and New York.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, said she was "convicted that his humanism & his progressivisim will benefit Londoners".

New York mayor Bill de Blasio referred to Mr Khan as a "fellow affordable housing advocate" and added: "Look forward to working together!"
